Helicopter Fire Fighting
By Rey Madrid

Flying a helicopter for fire suppression/support is one of the most enjoyable jobs a helicopter pilot can have.
Flying a helicopter for fire suppression/support is one of the most enjoyable jobs a helicopter pilot can have. It is like a war against the fire where all the participants (Air Tankers, Ground Personnel, Smoke Jumpers, Heli-Tack, Hotshots,...) play a key role that helps them all collectively battle the blaze.

I have often told people that water bucket drops reminds me of playing video games as a teenager. Having a load that you are not worried about punching off is a good feeling too. There is a sense of instant satisfaction with fighting fires. However, there are some times when it is hurry up and wait. A slow fire season can test one's ability to entertain the brain.

This section is dedicated to ALL who work in the fire fighting industry. It is a dangerous and rewarding job that sometimes goes thankless. Being away from home, family, and the luxuries of life it is not a job for everyone. But for those who cannot get it out of your blood it is a way of life. Enjoy those MRE's!
