Oregon Aero’s Comfort and Safety to Land in Scott’s-Bell Model 47’s

SCAPPOOSE, Ore. — Under a new working agreement, Oregon Aero, Inc., an innovative manufacturer of sophisticated seating systems for the aerospace industry, will develop a specialized seating system and custom interior solutions for Scott’s-Bell 47, Inc.’s fleet of Model 47 helicopters.

Manufactured in the U.S.A., the seating systems will be Oregon Aero’s FAA-compliant VK SmartCushion™ Systems, which provide maximum comfort and improved safety. Each Oregon Aero® VK SmartCushion™ System is designed for a specific cockpit and takes into account variables of space, interface locations and other customer requirements. The seating systems, which shift the hips, pelvis and back into the proper sitting position, also mitigate vibration, reduce fatigue and prevent uncomfortable hot spots.

“We’re both honored and excited to be working with Scott’s-Bell 47 to bring our unique blend of comfort and safety to these renowned helicopters,” said Tony Erickson, Chief Operating Officer for Oregon Aero. “This relationship is really going to be a great fit.”

In addition to the new seating systems, Oregon Aero will develop improved, customizable interior solutions for the Model 47, a well-known two-seat helicopter that in 1946 became the first helicopter to be certified for civilian use.  Oregon Aero’s extensive line of aircraft interior upgrades includes custom upholstery and seating, window and glare shield cover replacement, cable inspection and repair, and seat belt and webbing replacement.

“We are very excited to be confirming this relationship with Oregon Aero to develop improved seats and interiors for the 47,” Scott Churchill, president of Scott’s-Bell 47, said in a release. “Oregon Aero’s seats are renowned across the industry for being one of the most comfortable helicopter seats. These seats will offer improved safety and reduce pilot fatigue.”

Based in Le Sueur, Minn., Scott’s-Bell 47 is the sister company to Scott’s Helicopter Services Inc., one of the world’s largest operators of Model 47’s. As the Type Certificate holder for the Model 47, Scott’s-Bell 47 manufactures replacement parts and provides OEM level customer support to the fielded fleet. Of the more than 5,600 Model 47’s produced before Bell stopped manufacturing them in 1973, more than 1,000 are still flying today.

“This relationship with Scott’s-Bell 47 is a great match for us,” Erickson said. “Working together and adding innovative technology, safety and comfort, we’ll be making an already classic, versatile helicopter even better.”
