Coast Guard Air Station Detroit on scene in Haiti

As a massive military response to the Haiti earthquake mounts, forward deployed crews from Coast Guard Air Station Detroit were already on-scene.

Deployed on the Coast Guard Cutter FORWARD (WMEC 911), CDR Nick Koester, LTJG Dave Janney, AMT1 Jeff Breidenbach, AMT3 Kevin Housner, and AET2 Duane Zitta are flying and maintaining an HH-65C Dolphin helicopter in support of relief operations in Haiti. The local Detroit Coast Guard pilots and aircrew flew Major General Floriano Viera Neto, next in line to lead UN military forces in Haiti, over the devastation the recent 7.0 earthquake inflicted on Haiti. As more US military assets arrive on scene, the deployed crew from Detroit will coordinate with other units to provide rescue and humanitarian efforts to help the people of Haiti overcome this tragedy.
