PHI S-92 Helicopter Pilot Launches Acclaimed Novel

Captain Dean M. Cole, a Training Captain for PHI, Inc., takes advantage of the quiet evenings in his company assigned quarters to toil away at his laptop. Now, that dedication appears to be paying off. In the intervening three months since first publishing his science fiction thriller, SECTOR 64: Coup de Main, it has risen to the eighth highest rated High Tech Science Fiction novel in Amazon's Kindle library of roughly 900,000 ebooks.

While assigned to the First Cavalry's 1/227th Aviation Regiment as an AH-64 Apache pilot, Captain Cole discovered his love for writing during Desert Storm. His family's laughter at the tales of burning diesel-fueled human waste while stirring the mad concoction with a camo-pole left him wanting more.

Almost two decades later, and after an on again, off again affair with his computer keyboard, he finally typed 'The End' on his first novel earlier this year.

Based in today's world, his apocalyptic thriller follows the path of an Air Force fighter pilot through amazing revelations and exciting twists and turns as things go from bad to good to worse. He's drawn into a global conspiracy. Originally designed to improve the planet's lot, the conspiracy inadvertently renders Earth a pawn in an ongoing galactic civil war.
“Where possible I've tied real-world history into the novel's backdrop,” said Cole, 46. He says it can be purchased as an ebook just about everywhere they're sold, and as an ebook or paperback on Amazon.com.

While sales have risen each week, he said reader feedback has been his biggest reward. "Having my work compared to greats like Tom Clancy, Dan Brown, and Clive Cussler was one of my biggest thrills."

Captain Hal Johnson, a fellow PHI Training Captain, added his own review. "I have to admit I was surprised to learn that my coworker, Dean Cole, had written a novel. After all, he flew helicopter gunships in combat. My take on gunship pilots is that they spend their free time riding motorcycles or hustling airline pilots out of their money while frequenting the toniest of pool halls and wearing ultra-cool sunglasses. Alas, Mr. Cole may do all of those things, but he also writes, and he's one heck of a storyteller." Captain Johnson went on to say, "This military/UFO/space/conspiracy adventure pulls the reader in quickly and doesn't let go. The novel offers adept pacing and refreshingly realistic dialogue: The central characters, despite finding themselves in fantastic circumstances, talk like military pilots, not Boy Scouts or movie stars.”

Captain Cole, now fully committed to his parallel career as a writer, has already written 'The End' on the sequel and hopes to have it out to his readers by the end of the summer.
