Lee County Sheriff’s “Chopper 1” Selected for American Heroes Event Trading Card
Bryan Smith, Volunteer – Event Director of the American Heroes Air Show, today announced the name of the agency presented on the collectible event trading card which was commissioned especially for the 2011 American Heroes Air Show in Fort Myers. Featuring an aircraft that has become the standard for airborne law enforcement missions, the card profiles the American Eurocopter AS-350 B2 “A-Star” aircraft – with a call sign of “Chopper 1” this high-tech aircraft provides a unique resource for the Lee County Sheriffs Office – Special Operations, Aviation Section.
Based in the Fort Myers area this unique aircraft will join over twenty helicopters planned for display during the admission-free American Heroes Air Show. Our very special thanks to Lee County Sheriff Mike Scott for giving his team the ‘thumbs up” to attend the Heroes Air Show this year.
Since 1993 the American Heroes Air Shows around the country have profiled aircraft and crews on collectible event trading cards to promote the dynamic role and value of helicopters in law enforcement, fire service, Search & Rescue as well as homeland security and national defense.
Previous cards in the American Heroes series have included the Boeing AH-64 Apache, the Sikosky Firehawk flown by Los Angeles County Fire Dept as well as many cards with aircraft flown by the U.S. Coast Guard. As Smith explains, the aircraft and agencies are selected to provide an even balance between private and public aircraft and civilian and military.

The back of the Lee County Sheriff’s card features technical and performance attributes of their Chopper 1 and  explains details of the unit’s multi-role mission in community safety. The trading cards are free while supplies last and guests are invited to meet aircraft crew along with other deputies who will be available to autograph cards and educate the community about the important mission and heritage of the Lee County Sheriffs Department.
Smith did confirm a second card has been produced but that the identity of the aircraft and agency profiled is on a strictly ‘need-to-know basis.’ “If people need to know,” he explained, “we invite them to join us at the admission-free American Heroes Air Show”.

More than Just an Air Show
The American Heroes Air Show also welcomes the “American Anthem” program which invites the community to participate in an emotional ceremony as serving members of the U.S. military and others recite their Oath of Allegiance and become U.S. Citizens while standing before a replica of the Vietnam Memorial Wall provided by the American Veterans Traveling Tribute [ www. AVTT.org ] “The special Naturalization Ceremony is part of the 2 admission-free Heroes Air Show,” Smith explained. “ They’ve always been our heroes, … we invite the community to join us as they become our newest citizens.”
The American Heroes Air Show also features the CODE3 Career Fair which offers the community a rare chance to meet recruiting teams from law enforcement, public safety, government service, volunteer agencies and the military who are on-scene to profile their mission and provide information on hiring, training and the application process.
The American Heroes Air Show also delivers educational mission briefings, concessions, entertainment and activities for the entire family.
