American Heroes Air Show Lands at Historic Spirit of St. Louis Airport

Buckle up the entire family for high-flying excitement when the American Heroes Air Show, the nation's premier admission-free aviation event devoted exclusively to helicopters, lands at the Spirit of St. Louis Airport on Saturday, October 9th, 2010.

Since it’s inception in 1993 near Los Angeles, this admission-free event has grown from coast to coast by introducing the public to the unique capabilities and dynamic role of helicopters in our community every day.   Event Director Don Anderson invites families to get an up-close look at these go-fast, high-tech aircraft and learn how their crews are on the front lines every day of homeland security, national defense and public service.

Dedicated to educating the public as to the unique capabilities of helicopters in law enforcement, fire service, public / private EMS, homeland defense and national security, this admission-free event invites helicopters from local, regional, state and U.S. Military operators.  Event Director Anderson plans to bring together a broad section of the community to meet the crews and get an up-close and personal look at the dynamic role helicopters play in public safety.  “I know all the crews are looking forward to meeting the individuals many of them serve on a daily basis,” Anderson explains.  “Often these crews meet folks during some personal traumatic event.  This air show provides the community, the media and our elected officials a rare chance to spend time with these crews and learn about the important mission helicopters play in local public safety as well as national defense overseas -- that gives me a great feeling.”

More than just an Air Show
Also featured during the air show will be the Cost of Freedom Tribute, hosted by the American Veterans Traveling Tribute (www.avtt.org),  a veteran-owned project that travels the USA to provide a forum for members of the community to come together to HONOR - RESPECT - REMEMBER those whom we have asked to stand in harms way to protect and defend our great country.  Don Allen is the CEO of the AVTT organization and a retired Special Forces Colonel with the U.S. Army.  “The tribute honors those who are the true American Heroes,” Allen explains.  “And we have the obligation to pay tribute to them by celebrating the freedoms they fought for and stand to insure.”
The visually compelling centerpiece of the Cost of Freedom Tribute is the Traveling Vietnam Wall – an 80% replica of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington DC.  The "wall" stretches over 380 ft long from end to end and contains all 58,253 names. The "wall" is current through 2009 and is constantly being updated to accurately pay tribute to those who died during the Vietnam war.

The Cost of Freedom Tribute will be open to the public at Spirit of St. Louis Airport from Thursday through Sunday, October 10th and there is no charge for public viewing.

The event also features the popular CODE3 Career Fair which offers the community a rare chance to meet recruiting teams from law enforcement, public safety, government service, volunteer agencies and the military who are on-scene to profile their mission and provide information on hiring, training and the application process.

Want to be part of the action ?  ..   Then check in with private and public schools that will be on-scene to meet the community and profile their own Criminal Justice and Emergency Preparedness classes.  Get information on enrollment requirements, class schedules and tuition assistance.

A long tradition at American Heroes Air Shows around the country are the collectible event trading cards which are available and free in limited quantities to early bird arrivals.  These very popular trading cards feature photos and technical specs of the participating aircraft.
