SACRAMENTO — CalFire and other agencies have launched an all-out assault from the air, enlisting nearly two dozen planes, tankers and helicopters to battle the blazes spread across the North San Diego county.

On the ground, CalFire has put out a statewide call for re-enforcements. Crews are coming from as far away as Humboldt County.

According to the latest reports:

On the Poinsettia fire in Carlsbad, CalFire has deployed an air tactical plane and tanker, along with two helicopters shared with San Diego County. A federal tanker was also helping.

On the Tomahawk fire at Camp Pendleton, there was a mix of eight federal and state aircraft. A helicopter was also assigned to the Freeway fire, also on the Marine base.

The Highway fire campaign near Deer Springs along I-15 was battled by two CalFire air attack planes, four CalFire tankers, a helicopter and an Orange County helicopter.

Gov. Jerry Brown, during a budget event in San Diego Tuesday, referred to the start of what could be a disastrous fire season.

"Fire season, first of all, is starting much earlier, it’s going to last much longer and citizens should take fire danger very seriously. Listen to the alerts on the media and follow directions. When people say evacuate, don’t wait, be sensible.," Brown advised.

"And then I would just say that the climate is changing in ways that will bring about more forest fires. Our fire season is much longer than it has been historically. We’re spending a lot more money. In this year alone I signed a bill for over a half a billion – as a matter of fact, about $640 million – to deal with drought. We’re going to do everything we can and that’s another reason why we want to restrain spending, because there’s going to be a lot of unexpected catastrophes and disasters that we want to be prepared to fight."
