Eight Major Players in the Helicopter Industry Will Support the 2014 IHST Safety Symposium as Platinum Sponsors

The International Helicopter Safety Team (IHST) will welcome eight major helicopter industry organizations as Platinum Sponsors for its seventh worldwide helicopter symposium.  The event for safety professionals takes place Feb. 27-28, 2014, in Anaheim, Calif., and will immediately follow the close of Heli-Expo 2014.  Platinum sponsors will be Bell Helicopter, The Boeing Company, Bristow Group, Eurocopter, the Helicopter Association International, Robinson Helicopter Company, Sikorsky Aircraft Corp., and Turbomeca.

The symposium will focus on the importance of helicopter pilot self-discipline and personal responsibility.  In addition to international aviation safety experts participating on panels during the event, one of the keynote speakers will be U.S. National Transportation Safety Board member Robert L. Sumwalt.

During the 1 ½-day session, attendees will participate in a wide range of activities:

  • Banquet event with keynote speaker Robert L. Sumwalt, NTSB.
  • Morning session with keynote speaker Kurt Robinson, Robinson Helicopter Co.
  • Safety briefing on accident trends and industry developments from the U.S. Helicopter Safety Team, the European Helicopter Safety Team, and the Brazilian Helicopter Safety Team.
  • The story of a miraculous landing: by Julia Link, Mauna Loa Helicopters.
  • Interactive dialog with safety experts, small operators and NEMPSA on adopting a safety culture and on the safety initiatives aimed at achieving the IHST vision.

Symposium attendees also will have the opportunity to:

  • Help determine the next steps in enhancing civil helicopter safety;
  • Broaden awareness of the best safety practices and new safety technologies;
  • Familiarize themselves with new safety tools and training aids available from the IHST.

The opening banquet takes place Thursday, February 27, from 7:00 pm to 10:00 pm in the Anaheim Marriott Ballroom.  The full day of interactive sessions takes place     Friday, February 28, from 8:00 am to 5:30 pm in the Anaheim Convention Center.

Attendees can register for the full-day session (no fee) and for the banquet ($25 per seat) at the IHST web site www.IHST.org or directly at https://www.ihst.org/Default.aspx?tabid=3163&language=en-US.

The IHST promotes safety and works to reduce civil helicopter accidents worldwide.  The organization was formed in 2005 to lead a government and industry cooperative effort to address factors that were affecting an unacceptable helicopter accident rate.  The group’s vision is an international civil helicopter community with zero accidents with a goal to reduce the international civil helicopter accident rate by 80 percent by 2016.  This cooperative government-industry effort is co-chaired by the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration and the Helicopter Association International.

The IHST also establishes international partnerships in countries with significant helicopter operations and work to encourage the overseas industries to carry out accident analysis and develop safety interventions.  Worldwide partners now supporting the work of the IHST include government and industry participants from the United States, Canada, Brazil, Japan, Australia, India, Russia, and multiple countries in Europe, Central Asia, and the Middle East.

More information about the IHST, its reports, safety tools, and presentations can be obtained at its web site at www.IHST.org and on the IHST Facebook page.
