CURTISS-WRIGHT CONTROLS AWARDED CONTRACT BY BELL HELICOPTER

HELITECH 2013, LONDON, UK – Curtiss-Wright Controls, Inc. today announced that it has received a contract from Bell Helicopter to supply crash protected data acquisition recorders for use on the Bell 412EPI helicopter. Under the agreement, Curtiss-Wright Controls’ Avionics & Electronics (CWC-AE) division will provide Bell Helicopter with its compact Data Acquisition Flight Recorder (DAFR) product which will be offered to customers as an option on the 412EPI to provide the rotorcraft with Cockpit Voice Recorder (CVR), Flight Data Recorder (FDR), and additional key data acquisition capabilities.

The Curtiss-Wright Controls Avionics & Electronics (CWC-AE) division is manufacturing the products covered by this agreement in its Christchurch, UK facility. The products are being shipped to Bell Helicopter in Piney Flats, TN.

About the Bell Helicopter 412EPI
The new Bell 412EPI takes the reliability and versatility of the Bell 412 to the next level. Its Bell BasiX Pro™ Integrated Avionic System provides critical flight information at a glance for greater situation awareness and safety and is optimized for IFR, Category A, and JAROPS-3 compliant operations. The Pratt & Whitney PT6T-9 Twin Pac® engines provide enhanced hot and high performance and improved HOGE, CAT-A and PC-2e performance. The 412EPI is certified for single pilot IFR with 3-axis or optional 4-axis stability and control augmentation and a coupled flight director.

The Data Acquisition Flight Recorder (DAFR) fulfills the function of three Line Replaceable Units (LRUs) in a single, compact and versatile unit, making it ideal for a rotary wing or small/medium aircraft market. The DAFR uses state-of-the-art memory systems and dual redundant power input in accordance with latest TSOs. Features include 4 channel cockpit voice recording for 120 minutes per channel (one wide band, 3 narrow band audio channels), a dual band rotor tachometer interface, 25 hours of flight data recording from three ARINC 429 high or low speed data bus inputs, 4 analog potentiometer, 6 discrete and a single accelerometer input.
