Four Simultaneous XMWX Connections through Baron Mobile Link a Hit with Pilots

October 30, 2012, Huntsville, AL… Baron Services, Inc., a leading weather technology company, has enabled its popular Mobile Link device to connect to up to four mobile devices simultaneously, providing greater datalink weather flexibility to the business aviation industry. A free firmware update, issued in July, now allows both crew and passengers to view graphical XMWX data on multiple smart phones and tablets, all connected to a single Mobile Link unit.

Pilots are finding this new feature quite useful for en route weather planning.  Greg Hockersmith, Chief Pilot for Cox Enterprises, Inc. states, “We use XM Satellite Weather in our aircraft to supplement our onboard weather radar.  This allows our crews the ability to effectively and efficiently plan around en route weather.   On a recent trip, we encountered en route weather that impacted ATC routing, adding time and increased fuel consumption.  With multiuser capability, both crewmembers were able to simultaneously evaluate weather and consider alternate routes on the iPad.  We were able to save considerable time and increase the safety and efficiency of our operation.”

Baron Services added the four connections feature so multiple people could view XMWX weather data with their favorite apps on different devices at the same time, and not interfere with each other.  Hockersmith added, “As a corporate operator, this feature was so important. We took advantage of this firmware update as soon as it was posted.   Not only can both crewmembers simultaneously view XM weather on their iPads, but the multiuser feature allows passengers the ability to view XM weather data on their personal devices, as well.”

Availability
If customers have not already downloaded the Mobile Link Firmware 2.2 update, it is still available at www.baronservices.com/mobilelinkupdate.  Setup instructions and a tutorial video are provided on the page to assist customers through the upgrade process.  All new Mobile Link units now ship with the latest firmware updates in place.

The Mobile Link device will be on display October 30 – November 1 in XMWX Booth #1090 at NBAA 2012 in Orlando, Florida.
