Congratulations to the GSP Aviation Division for being selected for the 2012 International Association of Chiefs of Police Excellence in Police Aviation Award.  Nominations from aviation units all around the world are submitted each year for this prestigious award.  Only three awards are given each year in this category: Individual, Small Aviation Unit and Large Aviation Unit.  The GSP Aviation Unit was selected in the category for Large Aviation Unit.   Many factors including training programs, safety records, mission capabilities and other facets are considered in the selection process.  Colonel Mark McDonough, Aviation Director Billy Smith and Pilot Cpl. Tony Hightower attended the 2012 IACP Conference held in San Diego, CA.   During an awards ceremony luncheon, Cpl. Tony Hightower accepted the award on behalf of the Aviation Unit.  Without the dedication, hard work and sacrifice from everyone in the aviation unit, this award would not have been attainable.

Also, in recognition of the sacrifices and dedication of the GSP Aviation Maintenance Team, Colonel Mark McDonough recently presented Maintenance Supervisor Ronnie Fields, Technicians Wayne Edmonson, Jeff Gehrlich and Darrald Avery (passed) with a Georgia House of Representatives Resolution signed by the honorable David Ralston, Speaker of the House.  This Resolution is a tribute to the maintenance team for all their dedication, devotion and team spirit towards making the GSP Aviation Division the safest unit in the nation in lieu of many obstacles faced during the year.  In an additional effort to recognize their efforts, the GSP Maintenance Team will also be nominated for the Helicopter Association International 2013 Rolls Royce Excellence in Helicopter Maintenance Award.
