NFC Delivers NVG Training Solution to SkyLife Air Ambulance

Bedford, Texas (October 17, 2012) – Night Flight Concepts, the leading provider of night vision solutions,  is pleased to announce it has completed delivery of a comprehensive night vision goggle training solution for SkyLife Air Ambulance.   The new training enhances operational readiness for SkyLife to perform safe, efficient critical care transport services at night.

“Although we are committed to excellence in patient care, operational safety is our number one priority,” explained SkyLife Program Director, Lisa Epps. “Our NVG training from NFC has been integral to preparing our team for NVG operations. We are very pleased with the calibre of personnel, training products and services and support received.”

The new SkyLife Air Ambulance Night Vision Imaging System (NVIS) program is one of the strategic capabilities that enables the organization to more safely, efficiently and effectively serve their clients at night. Designed to merge cutting-edge technologies with exceptional EMS NVG industry experience, Night Flight Concepts conducted an innovative training program that provided up-to-date, relevant, comprehensive information on the latest NVG technology coupled with real-world, EMS- specific operational scenario training.

The comprehensive training program component from NFC entailed:

  • Initial NVG training for SkyLife pilots and medical crew members. Initial NVG training is required for personnel who do not have previous night vision goggle qualification or experience. For pilots, this is a mandatory requirement identified in FAA FAR 61.31(k) to use NVGs in flight.
  • NFC NVG Instructor pilot training for 2 pilots – a requirement for appropriately rated instructor pilots that are tasked to provide NVG instruction in-house.
  • NVIOTM NVG Computer-Based Training (CBT). This cost-effective, self-paced, interactive e-learning tool of FAA-approved NVG content augments conventional instruction, helps accelerate learning comprehension, enhances learning effectiveness and automatically maintains a standardized approach to training.

“SkyLife provides airborne critical care support when time is of the essence,” said Adam Aldous, Night Flights President & CEO. “Night Flight Concepts is pleased to assist SkyLife develop and maintain their NVG expertise to leverage their NVG investments to full advantage enabling enhanced situational awareness for greater safety and performance at night. ”

Serving central California since 1991, SkyLife Air ambulances provide critical time savings as well as high levels of patient care while inflight. SkyLife utilizes two Bell 407 helicopters, one based at Fresno Yosemite International Airport in Fresno, CA and one at Visalia Airport. Both aircraft are staffed 24 hours/day with a flight nurse, flight paramedic and EMS pilot. Additionally, SkyLife utilizes a King Air airplane (fixed wing air ambulance) for long distance hospital-to-hospital transfers.
