HONOLULU – Makani Kai Helicopters recently celebrated a gathering of America’s Medal of Honor recipients by gifting them with free aerial tours of Oahu. The recipients were in Hawaii for their annual convention in October. In all, a dozen Medal of Honor recipients flew tours, along with 17 of their immediate family members.

“These are straight-forward, down to earth people who also just happen to be real American heroes,” said Makani Kai president Richard Schuman. “It was both an honor and a privilege to meet these individuals and to hear their stories. Their acts of bravery are the epitome of sacrifice and selflessness.”

Schuman adds that his offer of free helicopter tours stands for any and all Medal of Honor recipients, plus a spouse or immediate family member.

“Giving the free tours is a small gesture compared with what these fine members of our military gave for this country.”

Makani Kai Helicopters is part of Schuman Aviation Company, Ltd., established in 1996.

Located at 130 Iolana Place at the Honolulu International Airport, the company operates Eurocopter AS-350 A-Stars, a Hughes 500-D, two Piper Chieftain twin-engine airplanes and two Cessna Grand Caravan turbine aircraft.  An FAA Part 135 carrier, Makani Kai Helicopters also is an FAA certified 145 Repair Station. In September, Makani Kai was accredited by the International Standard for Business Aircraft Operations (IS-BAO), the first such aircraft operator in the country so distinguished.
