The formation of the Night Vision Advisory Council (NVAC) is in response to an FAA request at NightCon 2011 for industry specific night vision recommendations. NVAC is seeking new members with a desire to aid in shaping the future of the night vision industry. The Council will consist of night vision manufacturers, trainers, and operators providing guidance to enhance regulatory issues. NVAC members will be made up of aviation professionals that have an interest in regulatory and operational oversight of the night vision industry. Initial NVAC focus will be night vision goggle (NVG) related issues.

NVAC will function autonomously without influence of interest groups or organizations. The primary purpose of NVAC initiatives will be safety, education, consultation, and facilitation of night vision related activities. NVAC members will be encouraged to participate in other aviation interest groups to educate and support night vision related topics.

It is envisioned that Council membership will not be limited; however, the voting members will be limited to twelve. Only one person per company may be an NVAC voting member. NVAC members will be required to attend two (2) meetings annually: one meeting to be held at NightCon; the other to be determined by NVAC members. Additionally, telephonic meetings will be held quarterly.

Night vision organizations interested in Night Vision Advisory Council participation, please provide:

A brief statement on company letterhead stating 1) how the company requesting NVAC membership is affiliated with the night vision industry, 2) that the person being considered for NVAC membership will be financially supported to participate in NVAC activities by the company, and 3) the name, title, and contact information of the person being considered as an NVAC voting member.

Requests must be received no later than June 30, 2012. The initial meeting of NVAC members is scheduled for July 16, 2012 in Fort Worth, Texas beginning at 9am. The location of the meeting will be announced June 1after all respondents are confirmed.
