Flying from the top of Europe to Cape Town in a Robinson 44 could be described as crazy but for 3 adventurer pilots it will be the trip of a life time, and they’ll be raising £100,000 for two worthy causes Mission Aviation Fellowship (MAF) and Motivation UK.

Charles McCann, Charles Stewart and Brian Johnston are all pilots with a love of adventure thus the three capes helichallenge was born, stretching flying to its limits.

This will take them from Nordkapp in Norway – Cape Wrath – Cape Town.

The three have completed Nordkapp – Cape Wrath (near home in Scotland), battling bad weather and poor visibility to reach the top of Europe and starting an adventure that has only been down once, and that was back in 1955 by Richard Cape, driving an Austin Westminster.

On the first part of the journey, they flew 1,900 nautical miles taking 4 days flying an average of 5 hours per day to reach Nordkapp where they would begin the trip back, crossing the North Sea – the biggest challenge so far.

Now, the pilots are finalising preparations for the next stage from Scotland to Cape Town. Brian will leave them in Europe leaving the two Charles’s to make the epic journey down through Africa crossing challenging terrain and refuelling in remote outposts.

They’ll see the work of MAF and Motivation in action. MAF is an aviation charity which uses small planes across the developing world to reach the remotest places and people, bringing vital help and supplies. Motivation provides wheelchairs for disabled people, helping empower them and bring change to their lives.

Details of their trip and how to get involved and donate to their two causes can be found at www.3capeshelichallenge.com. Find out more about MAF www.maf-uk.org and Motivation at www.motivation.org.uk
