Kamov Ka-32A11BC presented with Australian certificate of airworthiness

Russian Helicopters, part of state defence holding Oboronprom and a leading global designer and manufacturer of helicopters, announced that the Kamov Ka-32A11BC firefighting helicopter was officially awarded its certificate of airworthiness by the Australian Civil Aviation Safety Authority (CASA) at a ceremony during the Avalon Airshow 2013. The certificate was presented by CASA Director John McCormick to Sergei Kretov, the head of the Russian Helicopters delegation in Australia.

First Maryland State Police AW139 helicopters delivered

The Maryland State Police Aviation Command has taken delivery of the first two of 10 AgustaWestland AW139 helicopters that will replace its existing fleet of 11 aging Eurocopter Dauphins.

The first two AW139s were delivered to the Aviation Command at the Martin State Airport in Baltimore, Md. on Tuesday, with additional helicopters expected to arrive throughout the week. According to the Aviation Command, the helicopters have passed all required inspections and certifications, and Aviation Command personnel will immediately begin training on the new aircraft to familiarize themselves with the helicopters’ aerial and medical capabilities.

Twirly Birds announce 2013 Les Morris Award Recipient

Social helicopter pilot group, Twirly Birds has announced the 2013 Les Morris Award recipient as Mr. Jake Hart.  Hart's aviation career has spanned 55 years and more than 15,000 hours in both fixed and rotary wing aircraft.  After entering the U.S. Air Force in 1955, Jake Hart received his wings in 1957, and then spent ten years on active duty with a combat tour in Vietnam.  Hart has been an experimental test pilot for Bell Helicopter, Vought, Aerospatiale, and American Eurocopter.  His many achievements include aircraft certification projects as the primary test pilot for the adaptation of the 20mm Gatling gun on the AH-1, single pilot IFR certification for the SA341 Gazelle and SA360 Dauphin, and many other integral aircraft development programs.
