FAA: Nevada UAS Test Site Now Operational

(Washington) –The U.S. Department of Transportation’s Federal Aviation Administration today announced that the State of Nevada’s unmanned aircraft systems test site is ready to conduct research vital to integrating UAS into the nation’s airspace. Nevada is the third of six congressionally mandated test sites to become operational.

“Nevada has been on the leading edge of aerospace flight testing for almost 70 years,” said Transportation Secretary Anthony Foxx. “Today, the state continues that tradition by contributing to the safe and efficient integration of unmanned aircraft into the U.S. aviation system.”

Metro delivers law enforcement aircraft to Seminole County

Shreveport, Louisiana – The Seminole County Sheriff’s Office Aviation Section recently received a new AS350 B3e completed by Metro Aviation.  This multi-mission law enforcement aircraft is equipped with a cargo hook for sling work including a Bambi Bucket for fire suppression and a hoist for rescue operations.  The AS350 B3e is also equipped with an HD color/low-light camera and recording device with Forward Looking Infrared (F.L.I.R.) for surveillance and SWAT operations.  Images from the camera are displayed with mapping information on four cabin/cockpit-mounted displays. The aircraft is also equipped with fast rope bars and NVG technology.

Russian Helicopters, a subsidiary of Oboronprom, part of State Corporation Rostec, announces that Pyotr Motrenko has been appointed Managing Director of its Rostvertol subsidiary by Rostvertol’s Board of Directors at a meeting held in Rostov-on-Don on 7 June. Outgoing General Director Boris Slusar has been elected Chairman of the Board of Directors of Rostvertol, with Oboronprom CEO Dmitry Lelikov appointed Deputy Chairman.

Sikorsky Challenges Kids to Create the Helicopter of the Future in Scholarship Competition

Stratford, Connecticut - For the fourth consecutive year, Sikorsky Aircraft, a subsidiary of United Technologies Corp. (NYSE:UTX), is giving kids, ages 9 - 16, a chance to compete for a $1,000 scholarship through the Sikorsky Helicopter 2050 Program and Challenge.

The national program, which challenges kids to design a Helicopter of the Future, kicked off June 1 and will run through September 30, 2014. Contestants will design a helicopter that addresses the potential challenges of 2050 and plan for how their Helicopters of the Future would overcome those challenges.

Marignane, France – The worldwide fleet of EC225s that perform heli-lift duties for oil and gas operators increased by three today with Airbus Helicopters’ triple delivery of workhorse rotorcraft acquired by Milestone Aviation Group and leased to SonAir - an African operator – which will utilize them in Angola.

The handover ceremony in Marignane, France marked the latest such EC225 deliveries by Airbus Helicopters, with these rotorcraft expanding SonAir’s operating fleet, which already includes 12 EC225s, four AS332 L2s and three AS365 N3s.
