Avcon Industries, Inc. Announces New Helicopter Concept Design and System for Rotorcraft External Accessory Mounting

Olathe, Kan., March 1, 2013/PRNewswire/ --
Butler National Corporation (OTCQB):BUKS, a leader in the growing global market for structural modification, maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) announces through its wholly owned subsidiary, Avcon Industries, Inc. that they have produced a concept design for a skid mounted portable System for LIDAR operations in rotor wing aircraft. The installation of the LiDAR Laser Unit is within an enclosed "pod" and does not require any airframe structural modifications. This is beneficial for operators that utilize helicopters in multi-role missions by allowing them to quickly remove this system when scanner operations are not required and or modify the equipment attached rapid and easily. For fleet operators this mounting system could quickly be moved from one same make and model helicopter to another as a result of planned or unplanned maintenance events. Another significant benefit to the systems design is that no structural modifications to aircraft are required that usually adversely affect the value and therefore future resale of the aircraft.

FAA considers revisions to Part 27 weight limit

After denying Bell Helicopter’s request for an exemption to the Federal Aviation Regulations Part 27 weight limit for normal category rotorcraft, the United States Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) is seeking comment on whether that weight limit should be revised.

On Feb. 22, the FAA published a request for comments in the Federal Register seeking input on whether to change the existing applicability standards for maximum weight and number of passenger seats for Part 27 and Part 29 rotorcraft, “or whether to consider other approaches for determining applicability.” Currently, Part 27 limits normal category rotorcraft to a maximum weight of 7,000 pounds (3,175 kilograms) and a maximum passenger capacity of nine. Heavier and higher-capacity rotorcraft must be certified under the more stringent transport-category requirements of Part 29.
