Aviation’s Economic Impact on Arizona Showcased by Guidance Aviation at State Capitol

Prescott, Arizona, February 05, 2013 – As the economy continues to improve statewide, it was abundantly clear at the 8th Annual, Arizona Aviation Day, at the State Capitol that aviation and aerospace play major roles in the economic health of the State. 

Aviation’s economic impact on Arizona is astounding.  A recent ADOT report finds that aviation’s economic impact statewide is $58 Billion per year.  At the local-regional level, one can see a similar phenomenon with collegiate aviation programs like that of the Guidance Aviation-Yavapai College program in Prescott, Arizona.  In 2012, Guidance Aviation’s impact on the Prescott and surrounding communities in Northern Arizona was $15.2 million*, as established by William V. Cheek and Associates.

Such was the case when a legendary helicopter company was confronted with a worldwide problem in cleaning scale from a small, outsourced part that was preventing it from proceeding with production of its helicopters all over the world.

The problem was a carburized bearing surface delivered by a supplier of Sikorsky Aircraft Corporation, designers and builders of the world's most advanced helicopters for commercial, industrial, and military use.

Scholarship Deadline Extended Due to Severe Weather

Due to the severe weather the UK has experienced throughout January, Helicentre Aviation have granted a 30 day extension to candidates wishing to apply for their professional helicopter pilot scholarships. The weather conditions, ranging from heavy snow and freezing fog to gale force winds and torrential rain, have made it impossible to fulfill the training flights scheduled for January, which has severely affected candidates who were booked in to complete their training before the original scholarship deadline of 31st March.

Fourth AW169 Performs Its Maiden Flight

AgustaWestland, a Finmeccanica company, is pleased to announce that the fourth prototype of the new generation 4.5 tonne class light intermediate AW169 helicopter successfully completed its maiden flight at AgustaWestland’s Vergiate plant in Italy yesterday. During its flight, the aircraft performed as expected with an assessment of the helicopter’s general handling and basic systems being made. The event is a major milestone for the AW169 programme as the last of four prototypes now enter the flight test programme. The AW169 programme is on schedule to achieve civil certification in 2014.
