Rockwell Collins Unveils U.K. Simulation and Training Center

Burgess Hill, U.K. - Rockwell Collins, a world leading provider of innovative and trusted solutions for commercial aviation and defence applications, has unveiled a new simulation and training center of excellence in Burgess Hill, West Sussex, U.K. The company combined its operation located in Horsham, U.K., a facility gained through the acquisition of Evans & Sutherland in 2006, into its Burgess Hill facility, a facility added with the acquisition of SEOS in 2008.

The newly integrated operation will design, develop, manufacture and deliver high-fidelity, high-contrast, display and projector systems for use in highly immersive simulation and training applications for commercial and military aviation, call-for-fires scenarios, unmanned aircraft control and operations, and ground vehicle operations and maintenance. The Burgess Hill operation will also be a focal point for presenting Rockwell Collins' wide range of simulation and training systems from across the company to its customers in Europe, Middle East and Africa (EuMEA).

Air Methods Completes Medically Equipped Bell 407

Denver, Colo. - Air Methods Corporation has announced that its United Rotorcraft Division completed and delivered the first of four medically equipped Bell 407GX helicopters to CareFlite, a non-profit 501(c) 3 corporation providing medical transport across North Texas. The other three medically-equipped Bell 407GXs are anticipated to be completed and delivered to CareFlite by the end of the year.

“United Rotorcraft is honored to have earned CareFlite’s trust in completing the medical interior for their four new Bell 407GXs,” said Mike Slattery, President, United Rotorcraft. “We were able to leverage our unique internal Federal Aviation Administration Organization Designation Authorization status to quickly obtain Supplemental Type Certification approval for the medical interior and avionics suite and complete the work on this first unit in only 90 days.”

StandardAero Fortifies Rental Pool for Rolls-Royce Engines

Tempe, Ariz. - StandardAero's Helicopters business in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada, has invested nearly $3M in new Rolls-Royce M250 and RR300 engines to use in its rental pool of engines. A mix of five M250-C47B engines and one RR300 engine was recently purchased from Rolls-Royce to bolster the rental fleet.

This purchase increases the total investment in the rental pool to more than $10M. The pool now contains 25 engines (eight of which are M250-C47B) and an additional 20 engine equivalents separated into turbine, compressor, and gearbox modules - plus a RR300 engine. A separate purchase of four new hydro-mechanical units (HMUs) has increased the C40/47 exchange pool to 19 units.
