Bell Helicopter, Fort Worth ISD and Tarrant County College Create Opportunity for Students in Aviation and Engineering

FORT WORTH, TEXAS – Bell Helicopter, a Textron Inc. company (NYSE: TXT), Fort Worth Independent School District (FWISD) and Tarrant County College (TCC) announced today a collaborative effort to provide advanced aviation and engineering training for students at Dunbar High School. Representatives from Bell Helicopter, FWISD and TCC landed in a Bell 407GX at Dunbar High School in Fort Worth today to introduce the program to students and members of the community.

“This collaboration will provide real-time instruction to our students,” said Fort Worth ISD Superintendent Walter Dansby. “The expertise of the aviation professionals writing this curriculum is state-of-the-art. You couldn’t ask for anything better.”

Bell Helicopter Signs Purchase Agreement with New South Wales Police Force for First Bell 412EPI in Australia

FORT WORTH, TEXAS – Bell Helicopter, a Textron Inc. company (NYSE: TXT), announced today a signed purchase agreement with the New South Wales Police Force for the first Bell 412EPI helicopter to be operated in Australia. Based in Sydney, Australia, the New South Wales Police will take delivery of the new aircraft in late 2014 where it will be used for both tactical and response missions.

FAA Medical Chief Targets Fat Pilots And Controllers

Pilots and controllers who may be obese will have an extra hoop to jump for their medical certification to ensure they don't have obstructive sleep apnea (OSA). Federal Air Surgeon Dr. Fred Tilton has notified (PDF) Air Medical Examiners (AMEs) that they will soon be required to measure the body mass index (BMI) of all pilots and controllers during their medicals. Anyone with a BMI of 40 or more (up to 25 is normal) and with a neck circumference of 17 inches or more will automatically have to be evaluated for OSA by a doctor who is a "board certified sleep specialist." 

Air Methods Corp. buying Maui-based Blue Hawaiian Helicopters

Maui-based and family-owned Blue Hawaiian Helicopters is being sold to Air Methods Corp., the world’s largest air medical transportation company, for an undisclosed amount of money.

Blue Hawaiian Helicopters CEO David Chevalier told PBN the management and operations of the company will remain the same. He will continue as the CEO, his wife Patti Chevalier the president, and Patti’s brother David Griffin the chief operating officer. They will continue to maintain a significant share of the company through stock, Chevalier said.

FAS Signs Firm Orders for Two AW169 Helicopters
