I've seen several job listings around that mention USFS Carding. What is this? How do you get one? Any other information anyone has would be great.

The helicopter is "carded" by the U.S. Forest Service as well as the pilots and mechanics that will be stationed with it during it's contract. "Carded" simply means that you have met the criteria to perform the tasks that you are responsible for. The Forest Service sends an inspector to ensure that the a/c and personnell meet the requirements of the contract, and they are listed in great detail. Right down to the p/n of electrical connectors required. When I was carded it was good for 2 years, I believe. Hope this helps.

So, on this topic, what are the general requirements for maint guys to meet specific ship carding? How long do I have to have maintained a UH1 to be cardable?

I hope this helps. Here is a link to the practical test standard for carding. This spells it out for you in plain text. If you have vert ref experience it will be a piece of cake. With no vert ref, it may prove to be a challenge. Good Luck. http://amd.nbc.gov/dts/tsdocs/IHPTS6-00.pdf amd.nbc.gov/dts/tsdocs/IHPTS6-00.pdf
