This depends on two things, what kind of enviornment do you work it (hospital or base), and what kind of helicopters you work on (simple-like the Bell 206 or more confusing like an Euro style like an EC-135).

Do you have any specifics like this, or are you planning on looking into a job in the EMS field?

I worked for a large EMS provider and i loved it. The work was stressful and the always present 2 AM phone calls tends to ruin a lot of nights.. all in all it was a very satisfying experience and one I would gladly do again once I finish my degree.

The more remote the base, the better..It keeps you out of corporate politics and all you have to do is keep the helicopter flying and not miss any calls due to maintenance issues. If you can do that consistently, you will find a lot of freedom in how you work. You are not on the clock and if you can get the job done early, then that's more free time.

Now if your helicopter is always broke and you keep missing calls because you decided to do your inspections during peak hours..well that's on you and you can expect to be micro-managed or replaced.

Remember the job is to keep the helicopter ready to fly at a moments notice. This requires a pro-active approach in anticipating issues, planning for maintenance and dealing with mechanical issues. You have to know what you are doing.
