Ok, I have been reading horror stories about the hiller in general.  I have read they are pig to fly, in need of constant maintanance, and seem to be always broken.  I am a CFI in need of a nice dependable helicopter for around 70-80k.  Any guidance or opinions are greatly appreciated.

Thank you

I doubt you're going to find a dependable helicopter for 80K.
The Hiller is old and will require constant maintanance not unlike most helicopters that are old.
Insofar as being a pig to fly, compared to a Robbie, it's sluggish but then again it's larger and with the paddles it lags with input.

If you can find a dependable helicopter for 70-80K that dosen't need constant MX, I sure would like to know what you got!

I worked as a loader around a Hiller 12E and there is a lot of things to do on it maintenance wise. This is mainly because it was used as a crop dusting helicopter. If you use it for personal use or photo flights it should not be that bad, but if used and flown a lot as in 6-8hrs/day 4-5 days/wk than yes you have more maintenance to do. The most I seen was having to grease all the grease zirts on the rotorhead, and the trail rotor, tail rotor driveshaft. A Hiller is a great machine to fly and yes it does lag behind the control inputs. Good luck

I have a Hiller UH 12C. What helicopter does not need maintanance? The Hiller is not as bad as you think, it is a very dependable helicopter. The 12C isn't the most powerful heli out there but I would prefer a Hiller over a Robinson any day.
