I just heard from Joan, Terry's wife, and she informed me that they now know that Terry died from a heart attack in his sleep on the 29th as the result of an enlarged heart; again he was on-duty at the Kona Fire Dept at the time. Joan also would like anyone who can make it that there will be a memorial service for Terry this Wednesday August 6th at the Old Kona Airport Pavilion and beach. Visitation will be at 3:00, service at 4:00 with a together afterwards. My prayers go out to the family of this Humble Hero. Many of us will not be able to make out to Hawaii for Terry's service, so this Wedneday afternoon take a moment to bow your head and say a prayer for Terry and his loved ones. Take Care & God Bless, TimothyA

My prayers go out to Joan and all of Terrys family. I had the pleasure of being one of Terrys co-workers at the Hawaii County Fire Dept. He was a great guy and will be missed by many people. God be with those who serve & protect others. Respectfully, Daniel Malavenda Former Hawaii County Fire Rescue Pilot Retired Helicopter Pilot

I stopped by the South Kohala Fire Station today to find out about services for Terry. [a href=http://www.westhawaiitoday.com/articles/2008/08/02/obituaries/obits01.txt]Click here for info.[/a] I got to meet Terry when we did a story about a rescue field exercise and always enjoyed talking to him, most recently at the Dolphin Days celebration with his wife. For all of you, this is Terry's wife, Joan. I hope I'm doing this correctly, afterall Terry was the computer wizard, not me. I've been deeply touched by all of your generous support and prayers. I can't even begin to tell you the enormity of my loss of this wonderful man. And when I read of your admiration of a man some of you have never met I am overwhelmed. He was such a humble man and would be so embarrassed by all of this. Please know I cannot begin to find the words to express my gratitude. Something that comes to mind is the pilot's prayer about touching the face of God. If anyone has that prayer or knows where I can find it, please let me know. Our e-mail address is tkelbaugh@hawaii.rr.net. Again, thank you from the depths of my heart. Joan

Hi Joan, here is a copy of the prayer you asked about with a copy of the link I found it on. God bless you during this difficult time. Although many of us are unable to attend the services in Hawaii, please know that you and Terry will be on our minds. Dwaine High Flight Oh, I have slipped the surly bonds of earth. And danced the skies on laughter-silvered wings, Sunward I've climbed and joined the tumbling mirth Of sun-split clouds - and done a hundred things You have not dreamed of - wheeled and soared and swung High in the sunlit silence. Hov'ring there, I've chased the shouting wind along and flung My eager craft through footless halls of air. Up, up the long delirious, burning blue I've topped the wind swept heights with easy grace, Where never lark, or even eagle, flew; And, while with silent, lifting mind i've trod The high untrespassed sanctity of space, Put out my hand, and touched the face of God.
