I have been looking for some time at what school I would like to go to. Anywhere in the country is fine but I would like to go to a place where I can get federal student loans. I see terms like FAA 141 or 61 approved I know that these terms determine the required flight hours. What I am really wondering is, do these different approvals mean anything different when it comes to financing? Please help, the more I look the more lost I am becoming on this subject.

I'll give you a brief. 14 CFR Part 141 has to do with "Pilot Schools" Basically speaking, the school is structured. For instance: you're not doing Autos before approaches. The FAA put this part into effect and allows the minimums for a 141 school to be less. For instance... Vortex Helicopters has a Part 141 Private Syllabus which allows for a Private License in 35 hours instead of the stand 40. It's also easier to get financing with a 141 school!! That's about all I've got for ya. Hope it helps

Hi Rebecca, You need to go 141 if you want to use Federal Student Loans or GI Bill etc. I believe you can only get alternative student loans for part 61 schools. Good Luck. Keith
