Hey guys, Just registered here to see if there are any working pilots or companies interested in discussing developing a helicopter pilot unscripted TV show. From a little bit of research, we've seen a lot of different pilots doing some pretty incredible flights that are underrepresented on television. We'd love to be telling those stories. If this is something that people are interested in discussing further, please send me an email through the message system on the forum, or just reply to this topic with your email/phone number and I will contact you. Or feel free to ask any questions here and I'll do my best to answer them. Our company is based out of Los Angeles and currently has multiple shows on air. We'd love to add the world of helicopter pilots to that resume. Looking forward to hearing from you. Mike

Just updating this post with more info. We've received a few responses to this post and are excited that our suspicions were corroborated that this is a world worth exploring with both compelling stories and characters. In order to take this idea out to the networks, we just need to identify some pilots who are interested in potentially being on the show. We'd love to Skype with anyone interested as we build the idea. So please do contact us. We're going to pitch this show in the next month, and we of course want the best people in the industry. Shoot me a message with any questions or comments. Look forward to hearing from you.

Self discipline is when you do something that you know is right even though you don't want to do it. As a professional and safe pilot you have to maintain control over your desires & emotions. Have INTEGRITY and great WORK ETHIC and you'll succeed in life.

Hallo Mike ... I appreciate my item is a tad late for your TV project but as a UK pilot, I'm wondering if you guys either in Oz or USA have any formal FAA or CAA equivalent for setting out base rules for 'Freestyle' flying.(UK CAA CAP document 403) In the UK, we have half a dozen pilots who hold the formal CAA approved DA for rotary , (Display Authority) and I hold a Display Evaluator Approval. Such flying, which is mighty popular at the air shows, fails to attract even a smidgeon of interest from the media or TV stations until something goes wrong! Am intersted in you take on the situation. Does your Roger Buis of OTTO fame need FAA approval? Dennis Kenyon.

In the USA or anywhere in the world where you'll be flying a "N" numbered aircraft under FAA Regulations, if you want to do any type of flying that's not in the Regulations or contrary to any existing Regulation, you'll need an LOA (Letter of Authorization) or a Waiver (waver of current Regulation).

All aerobatic pilots have these. You have to demonstrate to the FAA that you know how to do them safely and are consistent. You'll start for example with permission to do them at say 1000' agl and as you get better and the FAA confirms it you'll get permission to do more things and do them closer to the ground as Bob Hoover used to do. Using Bob Hoover as an example also, the FAA can just as easily take away that Waiver or LOA if they think you're doing something wrong or unsafe.

Self discipline is when you do something that you know is right even though you don't want to do it. As a professional and safe pilot you have to maintain control over your desires & emotions. Have INTEGRITY and great WORK ETHIC and you'll succeed in life.
