Hi Folks, I’m working a project that is currently hung up with the FAA and am trying to gather some information on landing procedures for the HH65. I need to figure out if it is safe to land with a main landing gear wheel missing. Having rationalized a bit, I’m thinking that the HH65 can probably land on surfaces that are not flat. I was wondering if there were any rules in the flight manual governing landing on uneven ground or pitching flight decks at sea that might help me work backwards to justify whether landing with a missing wheel is a possibility? Any help or hints gratefully received! Lucy

Yes it is safe to land with a MLG wheel missing. Best to use a vertical landing in this case and to not ground taxi. The 65 can land on slopes up to 10 degrees. Ship board limits depend on the type of cutter, but the max allowed is 5 degrees pitch and 7 degrees of roll. Excursions outside of the 5 & 7 limit can be used for daytime depending on the Aircraft Commanders comfort level. I hope that helps. Jimbo

Thanks Jimbo! That helps a lot. I had got hold of a Flight Sim manual (I think) that said pretty much the same thing but it increases my comfort level to have that data corroborated. If you happen to have access to an OEM flight manual and would be willing to copy some pages for me I would certainly be grateful. Thanks for your help, Lucy

What else exactly are you looking for? The stuff I mentioned in my post about the wheel missing is not in a manual. The 10 degree slope limit is literally one line in the flight manual. The ship limitations are a diagram in another manual. Googe "shipboard helicopter operational procedures manual" and look in Appendix B. That is where the ship motion limits are. I hope that helps. - Jimbo
