There seem to be three phases to becoming a helicopter pilot: 1. Get ratings. 2. Build time. 3. Obtain a job. A good majority of pilots are ambitiously waiting on phase 2, which are countless low time helicopter pilots with an endless desire to fly. I think there is an opportunity there and I haven't yet wrapped my mind around it but I know there are way smarter people out there that can. Let's develop a business model/ organization where we could provide a small monthly income job, doing a service which will pay for the salaries and helicopter time for pilots. Ideally this service would include working with helicopters and a ground crew. The only thing that makes this even seem possible to me is the man power. Here we have a workforce with goals, desire, and motivation to fly and I think there is potential to create something beneficial for low time hour pilots. Does anyone have the figures on how many pilots are actually on phase 2? National, continental, or world-wide… I encourage people with ideas and constructive criticism to reply. If it can’t work tell me why then tell me how it could.

You're forgetting about supply and demand! Yes, there are a GREAT number of low time pilots out there eager to work, but there is not enough demand for pilots to give them all jobs! If you want to get rid of phase 2 you'll have to find more uses/need for helicopter services, build more helicopters, and start up more helicopter companies! Good luck?

I think 3 comes before 2. Without a job, there is no building time. Regardless, it's not a matter of finding pilots, but finding work for helicopters is the real challenge. Then comes will the customer be comfortable flying with a low time pilot? Probably not. There are businesses that do what you are talking about though, which are flight schools and tour companies and that's about it. Anything else is unealistic at best unfortunately for what you're talking about. There's no other way to get insurance otherwise I don't think. There's a lot of swallowing of the pride and hard work and sacrifice that go into 2 and 3. Welcome to the chopper world.
