Hello all, In the D models equipped with the particle separator I've noticed the Scav Air mentioned twice. Once in emergencies....if Air Filter light illuminates then Scav Air OFF, and Alternate Air ON......and also under Normal Procedures.....In cruise flight, "Scav Air as desired". Since Scav Air is not the Alternate Air....when would a pilot "desire" Scav Air? Thank you in advance..

When the scav air is activated it makes the particle separator more efficient. It will increase your TOT, because it is drawing bleed air from the power plant to the particle separator to eject contaminants.
I would use the scav air during snow, rain, mist, dust, anytime when I want the filter system to be working better than normal. Watch your TOT.
If your air filter gets clogged, alternate air completely bypasses the particle separator and will give the power plant unfiltered air.
Remember to check your Scav air during the first run up of the day. You should see a TOT increase of 5C.
