If there are any past or present reserve/guard pilots out there please let me know. I have a ton of questions that I would love to have answered directly by those who have been there and done it. I am interested in attempting to join a reserve or guard post but I have some grey areas that I would like to make black or white. If you are one of those pilots or know someone or you know someone who knows someone please shoot me an email or PM and I’ll bombard you with a plethora of questions/scenarios. Thanks. Jason

Why don't you just ask the questions on the forum so we can all see the answers? This can help other on the fourm.

Boat pix and others interested in this subject,

I had the pleasure (sometimes discomfort) of serving 27 years in the Guard and Reserves. I had a unique career that progresses from Army enlisted, to Army Aviation Officer, to Air National Guard Officer to finally Air Force Reserve Officer. All of the officer positions were in flying status. For a while I would laugh and tell people that I spoke two foreign languages- Army and Air Force!

I truly understand your statement and the desire to use this forum to share the questions from one, Jlewis, with all. However, in my opinion, there are just too many variables. I have the perspective of having been involved in aviation with two different branches of service and two different systems, guard and reserves. I have been on the selection boards for these slots and I know the inside details of what they are looking for and who they select for these few reserve training positions.

I emailed Jlewis and then called him. I spoke with him for about 45 minutes. During that conversation I was able to listen to his goals, his thoughts and his ideas, then give him my perspective and advice with several different paths. I offer that to ANYONE on this forum. If you are serious enough about the guard or reserves to talk with a total stranger who has been there and done that, then shoot me an email, via my profile, and I promise that I will get back with you.

I am passionate about this subject. I grew up just a poor, white country boy. The guard allowed me to go to college, attend flight school and have the career that I have now. A lot of people helped me along the way and I am always gratefull and try to help those who are trying to get started. I spoke with Lyn last year about attending the Career Fair that he does each year in Vegas and doing a class on just guard / reserve aviation slots. I don't know the details of all the speakers at the event, but I would have taken my annual leave and attended the event just for the price of a cheap airline ticket and the hotel room. Lyn decided that there was not enough interest in that subject.

Again, I understand your comments. Please understand why I prefer speaking with the individual personally.

Respectfully,

There is a ton of information that is just too much to type on this forum, I was fortunate enough to get a call from sct407 and found advice you can't get from a forum. You can search all day and find a lot of good stuff on here and other web pages about this subject but what I wanted was a real voice and real thoughts. Not a computer screen. As for Super PTO, I just have yet to get around and email you. I would love to hear what you got to say as well. Boatpix, if you want some more info then give one these fellas a email or call. Hell, I'm in the process of filling out some paperwork I didn't know I could do until I spoke with sct407. Hope it works but if it doesnt I'll just try one of the other 50 routes that I can take!
