Hello Everyone Newbie here, my name is Robert Ferlisi. I am 16 years old, live in Quebec, Canada. I am an aviation enthusiast, and have loved helicopters since I can remember. I will be finishing high school this year, then plan to go to Canadore College, into the aircraft maintenace course over there. When I complete the course, I hope to work for abit as a mechanic, and get some experiance. Then later on I hope to go for my CPL (H) at GSH in Alberta. Thats my game plan right now, I know it won't be that simple....going to be some turbulence along the way, but I don't think its nothing I can't fly past :) . Any advice would be great if you want to give me any. It would really help me out. Thanks everyone. This is a great site, I joined yesterday, and am really loving it. The posts I have read, people seem to be really helpful. Looking forward to spending some time on this site. Anyway, take care everyone. Robert

Robert, Welcome to the wonderful world of Helicopters! The only advice I can offer you at this point is to follow your dreams, and don't take no for an answer. Also, the only stupid question is the one you don't ask. This forum is full of people who are willing and able to help. I have learned lots from the folks on jh.com. Keep an open mind, grow some thick skin, and become a learning sponge, and you'll go far! Lastly, don't ever let it become just a job. If you don't love what you're doing, it will become work, and you'll grow to hate it. Looking forward to seeing you around here, GB

Hey Gene Thanks for the warm welcome. You made me feel right at home. Thanks. I will try to absorb everything I can possibly learn, without forgetting any of it. LOL. I noticed you are located in NYC, do you know which is the best heliport to go to, to take some pictures. I would like to get a photography business going. Where I can sell my pictures, but first I need to get some good ones. Do you know of any good places where you can get close, or close enough to the helicopters, see some in flight and all that? Thanks alot. Take care, Robert

Robert, Your best bet for photographing helicopters in NYC is at the West 30th Street VIP Heliport, or from the South Street Seaport, looking at the Downtown/Wall Street Heliport. There are hundreds of operations out of these heliports during the week. On the weekends, your best option is the West 30th St. Heliport. I believe Wall Street is closed on the weekends to all but tour ships. One word of caution when selling pictures of helicopters, if you can see the tail numbers in the photos, I think you'll need to get the aircraft owners' permission to sell the photos. I am no legal eagle, but I'd sure check with an attorney as to the legalities of that sort of thing. I'd hate to see you get in trouble. Any legal experts out there know anything about this sort of thing? Blue Skies, Gene

Hi Gene, Thanks for your help, and for the heads up about the legal issue. I never knew that, and now that I do think about it. It could turn into something nasty. When I go to NYC, I will try to visit the Wall Street heliport. I am going with my school, for graduation, and they planned some stuff so I just hope I have some time to go and hang out at the heliport. If anybody knows about this legal thing, can you please put your advice in here like Gene said? Thanks. Thanks once again, take care Gene. Robert

You know what tho Robert, I just thought of something. On www.airliners.net, they offer all of their pics for sale, tail number or not, so I am not exactly sure what the legalities are. Maybe you could write them a letter and ask how they deal with that issue? Just an idea. Blue Skies! Gene

Hey there Robert....your plan sounds pretty good...I went to Canadore the first year that it opened...it was a pilot/eng course at that time(1972).I was over to see their new facilite at the 30 year reunion 3 years ago...very impressive compared to what i walked into back in the 70's, even so the training there has done me well..still into the flying/fixing....to bad there pilot course has been farmed out .Having both endorsements will keep your in demand...have a great time in aviation.;)

Hey Doug Appreciate the welcome. Thanks for the nice words about my plan! :) I just talked to the admissions department today, and I asked them about getting into the program. I thought I would have to do another year (grade 12) when I get there. Because in Quebec it only goes up to grade 11 and then you graduate. As long as I have my leaving certificate from high school, I am elegible for the program. So I will be applying to the college some time this month. They look like a really good school, and it would be nice if I get accepted. I would have to do the pre-technology course, because I don't have the full requirements. Gene, I have emailed Airliners.net, and I am just waiting for a reply. I hope there isn't any legal issues like that. So well see. I will let you know what the rules are about this, when I get a reply from them. Thanks guys, take care, Robert

Hey Gene Found out about the legal issues with selling photos. I asked the guys at "Fence Check Forums", and here is what they had to say about the question. The thread is here, just an FYI in case you were still wondering. [a href=]http://www.fencecheck.com/forums/index.php?topic=2026.0[/a] Take care, Robert
